Shame
It’s strange coming to terms with the fact that I was date raped. I’ve had more blackout sex than I’d like and (from what I know) it was all consensual sex that, while I may have regretted it, did not leave me feeling like I was taken advantage of. But I remember this night. I was in Positano, Italy with my parents. It was New Years 2004 and I was depressed. I drank two bottles...

azspot: Howard Zinn, the Boston University historian and political activist who was an early opponent of US involvement in Vietnam and whose books, such as “A People’s History of the United States,” inspired young and old to rethink the way textbooks present the American experience, died today in Santa Monica, Calif, where he was traveling. He was 87. Mega-sadness. /grieves :( Oh damn.

squashed: Student loan forgiveness and education tax cuts could really level the playing field for a lot of people. Amanda is busy tonight so it’ll be me on the couch, pipe in one hand and tissues in the other, scaring the cats with my yelling at the 36” CRT monitor that serves as my television. I swear, just once, I’d like to not have my first reaction to the President be “ARE YOU TRYING TO HURT ME?”

I think gender and sex are real but that not everybody has them. cis/trans/genderqueer coalitions are more like what I mean.

FYI
I understand the importance of gender-based critiques. Society forces everybody into identities and it’s ridiculous to dismiss people for organizing under them. I think genderqueer and trans alliances are necesary. I used to be a second-waver but then I realized people don’t fit. Wanna be startin’ something?

Gender
My gender identity is similarly diasporic. I love the trans movement and feel that the the protections and social acceptance sought by trans people would be a great boon to me. I don’t really identify as trans… at least not trans man or trans woman. But I certainly don’t identify as a cis man. I would much rather be counted amongst the girls if I have to choose. But, I present as...

Bisexuals
We have a hard time maintaining a coherent identity. We are erased: the male bisexual is completely invisible and the female bisexual is just playing for male attention. We are dismissed: gays are distrustful of their bisexual brothers and sisters who have chosen opposite sex partners. Pretty much everybody thinks we’re greedy sluts and it’s hard to push past that. The vast majority...
