Waiting for bread to bake
In 1993, Michigan went through a redistricting. John Conyers held Michigan’s 1st, which included part of the Detroit metro area from 1965 to 1993. After 1993, Detroit was cut out of the 1st and the seat went to Bart Stupak.
And that’s how one of the most liberal democratic seats becomes one of the most conservative democratic seats. Sadly, it doesn’t tell me whether or not Stupak would lose a primary, as he’s the only one to ever hold it. The 1st is rural, lower middle class, and white.
